‘WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS’ TRAILER REVIEW BY METRO CREW

A camera crew follows around a group of vampire friends (Jemaine Clement, Taika Waititi and Jonathan Brugh) in this mockumentary. While film has been over-saturated with these undead creatures in recent years, the vampires here are different — they’re just trying to get through the mundane details of daily life. What We Do in the Shadows opens March 6 at Kahala Theatre. >>

NICOLE: Mockumentary films are always fun, especially with Jemaine Clement. I think it’s outrageous that vampires are supposed to be smarter, faster, stronger and all that jazz, but these guys definitely aren’t.

PAIGE: It seems amusing, but in the way that I can sit back and say, “Ah, yes, I can see why that would be funny,” but then I wouldn’t laugh while watching it.

CHRISTINA: That is exactly what I was thinking. It looks like it could be funny, but the trailer didn’t do much for me. Other than remind me that I love Jemaine.

JAIMIE: I would like to see this so much. Jemaine really looks good as a vampire. I mean that in the nicest way.

NICOLE: I’m a fan of the hissing chest bump. That’s how I’m going to greet people.

JAMES: The challenge of getting into a bar because the bouncer refuses to specifically invite them in —”Will you eeenvite us een!” — it rings true. You don’t have to be a vampire to experience that problem on a Friday night … Am I right? Hello?

PAIGE: I’m wondering about the mythology aspects here, like how can they be filming vampires if they can’t be seen in mirrors. We can catch them on film, but we draw the line at mirrors?

JAMES: Sony solved this problem with a video recorder update back in the late 80’s. They can record vampires now … I like that they included a really old Nosferatu-style vampire.

CHRISTINA: It scared the crap out of me when I had to watch Nosferatu in school. He is so terrifying. When did they start trying to make vampires all sexy?

PAIGE: Vampires appeal to the entwined nature of sex and death. So, sexy vampires. Sadly, ghosts, who are also dead, do not get to capitalize on this connection.

NICOLE: Favorite one-liner from the trailer: “I go for a look I call dead but delicious.”

JAMES: This is what happened when Lestat bit into Jerry Seinfeld’s jugular.
