COLE, MYDOCK, DWELLINGS

Six very different artists have works on display at First Hawaiian Center through May 15. Peter Shepard Cole presents paintings of glittering North Shore seascapes and beachcombing trash and treasures, while Mydock literally burns intricate Polynesian designs into his wooden vases.

Meanwhile, home and hearth are on the minds of Fatiha Kheddaoui, Jinja Kim, Ayako Linden and Kirsten Rae Simonsen, who present everything from embroidery to ceramics to intaglio.

DINOSAURS UNLEASHED

Do dinosaurs ever stop being awesome? (The answer is, of course, no, they don’t. They always are awesome.)

Bishop Museum brings back its family-favorite animatronic dinosaur exhibit, Dinosaurs Unleashed. A dozen Mesozoic dinos, including the motherly Maiasaura and Tyrannosaurus rex, will prowl the museum’s Castle Memorial Building. Expect interactive stations, activities and lots of dinosaur-themed things for sale.

Dinosaurs Unleashed opens Saturday (Feb. 28) and runs through September 7.

DANIEL MOE

UH-Manoa’s Department of Art & Art History welcomes Daniel Moe as its first visiting artist in glass of 2015. Moe, a Hawaii island resident, claims inspiration from Kilauea’s fiery eruptions and lava flows for his elegant glassworks.

He’ll be at the Art Building, Room 101, at 3 p.m. Friday (Feb. 27) to lecture on his work, with hot glass demonstrations to follow until 7 p.m. in the campus glass studio.
