We know that cupcakes have been the new hip food trend for the last few years, but eating them can be a little cumbersome: The first couple of bites can be heavenly, but then about halfway through, it’s all a little too much. That’s why Cake Works’ mini cupcakes are so appealing — they have all the joys of a cupcake, but condensed into a more manageable size. These cupcakes come in assorted flavors, many of which are island-inspired, such as Strawberry Guava and Lemon Lilikoi. The frosting-to-cake ratio may lean a little far on the frosting side, but if you like it sweet, you’ll love these. Plus, they’re adorable.

You can scour the menu as long as you want, but this is the best deal you can possibly get at Ahi & Vegetable. You’ve got spicy ahi, spicy salmon and some ahi poke all in one bento set — this is actually very close to being almost too much fish. Ahi & Vegetable prefers pulverized spicy ahi, as opposed to the chunky kind found at most poke places. That’s all the better to ensure you get some fish with every grain of rice. The franchise’s two locations aren’t that far from one another (the other one is at Fort Street Mall), but we find the one in Kapalama Shopping Center tends to have a shorter wait and more seats.
