Before you ask us what’s so special about a seemingly ordinary salad, look closely at the photo. That grated white stuff? That’s not cheese. That’s white chocolate. Don’t recoil back just yet, though. Chocolate on tomatoes, sorrel and bits of salty toast sounds weird on paper, but somehow it totally works. Is it because of the sharp strawberry vinaigrette working in harmony with the sweet tomatoes and chocolate? Probably, but we’re not going to think about it that hard — we’re just going to eat it. Other must-tries at this Chinatown staple: Laotian Fried Chicken, which is crispy and tender in the best ways, and Coconut Horchata — the highlight of our night.

KALE AVOCADO TACOS

If you’re one of those naysayers when it comes to the kale trend, go try these tacos and it may just change your mind. Leahi Health transforms the potentially bland veggie into a burst of flavor by pairing it with a garlic bean spread and a cilantro lime dressing. It’s all served with black beans, corn, flax seeds, avocado, and served on top of warm naan. (For more on Leahi Health, read our story on it here.)
