OMELETTE NOODLE WITH SIMMERED BEEF
GAZEN
2840 Kapiolani Blvd., Honolulu
Phone number (808) 737-0230

Yakisoba wrapped in egg — what’s the big deal, you ask? Well, how about that this is probably the best omelet you’ve ever eaten: soft, savory and light as a feather. The noodles are thin and flavorful in that exclusively Japanese way (with the all-star quartet of okonomiyaki sauce, Kewpie mayonnaise, bonito and seaweed laver) with tender pieces of beef and veggies sprinkled in. It’s massive, so it’s perfect for sharing or just hoarding all to yourself in joyful gluttony. If you’re a really big fan of that omelette, Gazen does sell it separately as well.

GRILLED CHICKEN SANDWICH
THE DUMB COQ
12 S. King St., Honolulu – Chinatown
Phone number (808) 585-5999
website thedumbcoq.com

The still-new eatery The Dumb Coq has been attracting attention so far for its Coq Monsieur with ham and Gruyère cheese and its Chicken Saltimbocca with fontina cheese, sage and prosciutto. So the Grilled Chicken Sandwich, in comparison, might seem like a pretty straightforward menu item — and that’s part of its charm. A tender chicken breast and smoked gouda along with lettuce, tomatoes and red onions is served in between buttery slices of sourdough bread. It’s got all the makings of proper comfort food, really. It comes with your choice of fries or a side salad.
