Let’s Talk About Shunga

Honolulu Museum of Art hosts a public lecture, “Enjoying Shunga: The Public Reception of Japanese Erotic Art, Past and Present,” as part of its Modern Love exhibition, which runs through March 15.

The lecture, hosted by curator Dr. Ishigami Aki, discusses the market for Japanese erotic art, the government’s role in its distribution and its impact on the art world.

The free lecture begins at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 6, leading up to a screening of The Pornographers at 7:30. Sandwiches will be available for purchase in between the two events.

‘The Body Farm’

Exploring the idea that two artists can interpret the same image in very different ways, The Body Farm depicts various body parts as imagined by Kris Goto and Eric West.

The results are on display at The ARTS at Marks Garage through Feb. 28, with an artist talk at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 6. Beauty and The Beard also will perform at 7, 8 and 9 that evening.

My Name is Gary Cooper

that shows up at his hometown in Samoa. Written by playwright Victor Rodger, the play explores themes of race and identity.

My Name is Gary Cooper takes the stage this week at 8 p.m. Feb. 6 and 7, and at 2 p.m. Feb. 8. The play also runs Thursdays-Sundays through Feb. 22.
