I think we all, at some point, have the urge to be someone else — or, at least, be a part of a reality that’s different than what we know in our day-to-day lives. (I mean, that is why TV is even a thing, right?) So if you’re looking to step into another world, that’s what Comic Con Honolulu is for.

A new, multi-faceted convention that encompasses film, comics, games and more, Comic Con is brought to you by the minds behind the very popular Kawaii Kon. It’s full of panel discussions, contests, and meet-and-greets. For more on how the event got started and a rundown of what to expect, read Paige Takeya’s story on Page 10.

Meanwhile, Nicole Kato brings us back into reality on Page 9, by giving us a peek into the work of landscape photographer Andrew McHowell. The owner of Aina Imagery, McHowell shoots stunning pieces in some enviable locations. His work is a reminder that our own world can be pretty otherworldly as well.

Also in this issue, guest contributor Mary Lou Sanelli is back. Sanelli regularly writes beautiful, thoughtful prose for Metro — and she’s got a book that’s due out in September. Until then, you can read her latest on Page 5.

At any rate, if you really want to escape for a while, I guess the simplest thing to do would just be to head to Grondin: French-Latin Kitchen and order its signature cocktail, the N. Hotel — which you can learn about on Page 16 as our featured cocktail of the week.
