Letter From The Editor

Metro-092315-editorFirstly — and most importantly — we’re so happy that Christa Wittmier has beaten cancer. You can read more about her journey in her words at supercw.com. See the post titled, “cw killed cancer.” She reports that her latest scans reveal she has successfully gone from stage four to cancer-free! Congratulations, Christa!

She does still have a few treatments and surgeries coming up — and you can help her raise money for her continued care at Nextdoor’s 10th anniversary party on Wednesday (Sept. 23). Proceeds also will go to Nextdoor owner Daniel Gray, who also is battling cancer. You can see more details about the party in our On The Grid calendar.

Coming into Chinatown before it was the bustling area that it is today, Nextdoor has been one of the catalysts for building it up — another undoubtedly has been The ARTS at Marks Garage. Everyone knows the ARTS at Marks for its art shows and events, but it also runs a perhaps lesser-known program to introduce teens to a range of artistic disciplines. Learn more about the program here.

Finally — in what is my personal favorite article in this week’s issue — see what Paige Takeya feels is “the bane of the 21st century.”
