Letter From The Editor

Metro-101615-editorHere’s a confession: I spend most of the rest of the year wishing it were fall. Maybe it’s a hold-over from the few years I spent living in an area with beautiful fall foliage, but even here, where the change in weather is less noticeable, there is just something about this time of year. Winter cheer around the holidays can feel forced and get draining, spring is nondescript, and summer lacks the same significance once you’re not in school anymore.

But fall is perfect. A large reason for that is that you’ve got two of the best holidays occurring during the season (and they’re well spaced out — Christmas and New Year’s should have taken notice), starting with Halloween.

And here, there’s really no other place to be than the annual Hallowbaloo Music & Arts Festival. With a range of musicians and food vendors, as well as an after-party at Chinatown clubs, it’s really everything you want in Halloween. This year, the festival’s eighth, marks a year of firsts for the event. Read about what Hallowbaloo producer Mark Tarone has got lined up in our feature story.

And that’s just one of a bunch of exciting things going on. There’s also a yoga-based fundraiser for Christa Wittmier happening at The Republik Oct. 20. Learn more and get an update on Christa.

And check out what Nobu is serving for its cocktail of the month (and learn more about its creator Alicia Yamachika).

To me, fall also represents a time to start over. Again, this is likely a holdover from first days of school, but fall always feels fresh — like you could start anew if you want to. In her column this week, Paige Takeya contemplates the implications of starting over on social media and what it means when we erase our Internet history.
