Letter From The Editor

You know those things that have a hype so huge that when you actually experience it, you’re underwhelmed? Well, Alan Wong’s is definitely not one of those things. Sure, the hype surrounding his restaurants is massive. But deservedly so.

This week, our staff writer Jaimie Kim, who covers all things culinary for Metro, had the chance to sit down with Wong to chat about his passion for sustainability, his work to support up-and-coming chefs and, of course, food. To read her inside look at the man behind one of the island’s most popular restaurants, click here.

And for more food, Jaimie (along with most of the staff) also stopped in at Chinatown eatery Little Village Noodle House for lunch this week. Read about our experience.

After all of that eating, it was time to work it off. Well, kind of. I thought that sitting down with running coach Michael Garrison — who offers personalized training via his company Hawaii Running Lab — was close enough. Here’s a guy who runs 100-mile races and has spent years training athletes. For those of us (OK, those of you) who are preparing for upcoming winter races, Garrison was kind enough to share a few tips for training with us. Learn more here.
