Metro editor Christina O’Connor is on a much-deserved vacation. But fear not, ‘cause the rest of us have put together an issue we think you’ll enjoy.

We often hear that being an athlete has many advantages that extend far beyond the obvious health benefits. Sports build character. Sports teach leadership. Sports encourage teamwork.

Never have those claims seemed truer than in Ian Scheuring.

The man is like a walking billboard for everything athletics, especially as sports anchor and reporter for Hawaii News Now. It’s a role that fits him like a second skin, and a success Scheuring attributes to his own time as a student-athlete.
