Nextdoor continues its First Friday art shows with April Art pARTy from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. April 3. As always, the night is filled with live music, live art demonstrations, pupus and drinks. Plus, this time, there also are free manicures provided by MoYou Hawaii.

Artists Anya Leychenko and Luke DeKneef will be painting on site, and Lisa Shiroma also will be painting pics of pets. To get yours done, just bring in a photograph of your furry friend, and she’ll whip you up a portrait.

ZAHHAK: THE LEGEND OF THE SERPENT KING

University of Hawaii theatre and dance students take the stage in this play at 5 p.m. April 3 at Doris Duke Theatre. Well, they sort of take the stage. This is a shadow play, depicted in puppets created by artist Hamid Rahmanian, who also crafted illustrations for the production.

Part of Shahnameh: The Epic of the Persian Kings, it tells the story of Prince Zahhak, who is influenced by the devil to murder his father so he can assume the throne. He becomes an oppressive king and must be defeated. honolulumuseum.org
