TRELAINE ITO
Kakaako, staff assistant

As a staff assistant with the U.S. Senate, Trelaine Ito lives in Washington, D.C., where business wear means suits and ties. But he was back home in the Islands recently, so he took the opportunity to create a more casual work outfit.

“I was trying to look work appropriate, but I wanted it to be colorful,” says Ito, 24. “I didn’t want to be work-boring … It’s Hawaii, so it’s more laid-back.”

BETHANY SANTAMARIA
Ward, student
While studying for finals at a local coffee shop, Bethany Santa-maria wanted an outfit that would balance two competing needs: Be warm (with the recent chilly weather), but not be too hot. “I went with wearing boots, but with sheer tights that are not as hot or thick,” explains Santamaria, 18. “I just wanted to go for a chill and comfortable look.”

The look: Charlotte Russe boots, Forever 21 shirt, Forever 21 cardigan, Target bag, swap meet watch
